Greetings and welcome to the August 2014 issue of Special Interest Group (SIG) 5, Perspectives on Speech Science and Orofacial Disorders! It is my pleasure to serve as your editor for 2014–2016, along with our new associate editor, James Dembowski. We have an excellent set of manuscripts for this issue which range from an in-depth speech science piece by Brad Story, our 2013 ASHA Convention Zemlin lecture honoree, to clinical interest pieces that explore academic and clinical training needs for SLPs. We hope you will find that this is an issue that offers something for everyone!
In the October 2014 issue, we will offer an exciting and diverse set of papers focused on various treatment approaches for speech disorders associated with cleft palate and velopharyngeal dysfunction. We will continue to work with the SIG 5 Coordinating Committee to ensure that the needs of our affiliates and readership are addressed through this publication. Please feel free to reach out to us with any topic ideas for future issues of Perspectives.
