At this time I want to welcome Dr. Adriane Baylis, our new editor, and Dr. James Dembowski, associate editor. They will be our editorial pilots through December of 2016. The lineup for the August 2014 issue includes a mix of speech science and clinical papers. The third article is a comprehensive summary of the topics presented by Dr. Brad Story at the Willard R. Zemlin Memorial Lecture at the 2013 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention, entitled “Structure, Movement, Sound, and Perception.” This fascinating lecture focused on how the movements of the vocal tract and laryngeal structures are transformed into sound, and how those sounds are perceived by listeners. Mary O'Gara and Helen Sharp have combined their talents to document what graduate students should be taught in their paper on core curriculum guidelines for graduate students. In a partner article focused on cleft/craniofacial competencies, continuing education, and training pathways for the practicing clinician, Kerry Mandulak and Adriane Baylis discuss prerequisites for the successful working professional. Together, these articles provide a solid knowledge and skills package for potential and certified speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Thank you to all of the volunteers who served as authors and reviewers for yet another great issue of Perspectives. The October 2014 issue will include several articles submitted in response to the special call for submissions for Special Interest Group (SIG) 5 Perspectives.
