It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Stewart Rood PhD, MPH (1946–2005). Dually certified as a speech-language pathologist and audiologist, Stew received his BA. (1967) from CUNY—Brooklyn College. He earned both his PhD (1972), and his M.P.H. (1982) from the University of Pittsburgh, where he served as Associate Professor of Otolaryngology until 1991. Stew’s numerous research contributions centered on the morphology of the fetal m. tensor veli palatine; adult Eustachian tube; and the tonsil and tonsillar bed. He also contributed to knowledge of pharyngeal wall motion; voice disorders in children; head and neck pathologies; and otolaryngology training for family practice residents.
