Greetings to all Division 5 affiliates! It continues to be my pleasure to serve you as the Coordinator of the Division 5 Steering Committee (SC). I am assisted by very enthusiastic and capable SC members: Lynn Marty Grames, David Jones, Mike Karnell, and Dennis Ruscello.
There were some exciting presentations at the ASHA Convention in Philadelphia this year, including Short Course (SC 10) “Velopharyn-geal Anatomy and Physiology: Effects on Speech and Resonance,” presented by some of the most respected and erudite professionals in the field: David Kuehn, Bonnie Smith, David Jones and Karen Golding-Kushner.
Division 5 co-sponsored the 5th Annual Willard R. Zemlin Lecture in Speech Science. This year’s honoree, Joseph Perkell, PhD, is a very accomplished senior research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Perkell presented “Sen-sorimotor Control of Speech Production.” The lecture is also supported by Allyn & Bacon, Dr. Zemlin’s publisher. I hope many of you were able to hear the lecture and congratulate Dr. Zemlin in person at the reception in his honor.
