The Government Affairs Committee of the American Cleft Pal-ate-Craniofacial Association has been busy over the last 2 years establishing a national network. The purpose of this network is to facilitate communication between the national office of the ACPA and the membership at the state level. The network is composed of 50 state legislative liaison and seven regional coordinators. With the network in place, the national office can alert the state liaison of upcoming national legislation that might impact on the care of craniofacial patients. In turn, the state liaison can alert the national office of any state legislative initiatives concerning persons with craniofacial anomalies. Four times a year the national office sends out a general request to all 50 state legislative liaisons asking for summaries of any pending state legislative initiatives. Because this is a voluntary network of professionals, there is also the need to develop educational materials for the state liaisons. Currently, the Government Affairs Committee is developing a packet of information to send out to each of the state liaisons.
